This weekend the Miser looks to Brooklyn for some affordable — not to mention offbeat —parties to ring in 2011.

The Bootleggers’ Ball, a vintage-costume event held in a 19th-century church in Fort Greene, will bring together cabaret acts, a dance party, cocktails and “just a dash of illicit adventure,” or so say the organizers, the self-proclaimed party mavensGemini and Scorpio. The dress code is “Depression glamour, evening ball on the Titanic, hobo formal and desperation derring-do.” The brass bands Roosevelt Dime and Stumblebum will provide music, along with D.J.’s playing vintage jazz and electro swing. (8 p.m. to 6 a.m.; $40 in advance; $50 at the door; $20 after 2 a.m.; $8 and under for drinks; RSVP for the exact location: geminiandscorpio.com.)
The comedian Murray Hill will host a bawdy variety show at Southpaw in Park Slope. Various artists — burlesque, performance, trapeze — will get the proceedings started on Friday, followed by D. J. Mel Huckabee, who will spin a late-night dance party until sunrise. (10:30 p.m.; doors open at 9:30; 125 Fifth Avenue, at Sterling Place; 718-230-0236; spsounds.com; $45 includes a Champagne toast.)
Enter the New Year while crossing the Brooklyn Bridge on a special tour guided by New York Talks and Walks on Friday night. Registration for the walk begins at 9:45 p.m., in front of the McDonald’s at 160 Broadway, between Liberty and Cortlandt Streets, Manhattan. Two walks will follow at 10:15 and 11:15 p.m. Free snacks and warm drinks — coffee, tea or hot chocolate — will be available for those who arrive early. ($40 in advance online; $50 cash at the tour; 888-377-4455, newyorktalksandwalks.com.)
Band and cast members from the Broadway musical “Fela!” will welcome the new year with the help of their former cast mate, Sahr Ngaujah, who originated the role. The“Felabration” will begin at 9 p.m. at the Knitting Factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Friday, with a performance at 10 and a party afterward. The show closes on Sunday, so this may be your last chance to see the Afrobeat crew doing its thing. (361 Metropolitan Avenue, at Havemeyer Street; 347-529-6696, bk.knittingfactory.com; $60 in advance; $70 at the door; includes a Champagne toast.)
ALTERNATIVE EXTRAVAGANZA
After a night of revelry, it might be nice to sit back and let someone else do the entertaining. At the annual “Dark Matters,” the Alternative New Year’s Day Spoken Word/Performance Extravaganza on Saturday, 150 artists will play music, read poetry and dance. A book, to be donated to Books Through Bars, a nonprofit organization that gives literature to prison inmates, is the cost of admission. (2 p.m. to midnight, Bowery Poetry Club, 308 Bowery, near Bleecker Street, East Village; 212-614-0505,bowerypoetry.com; free.)
