Scientific progress was defined by Boyd as a cyclical process in which development of methods is used to construct scientific theories; these theories lead to more methods, which are then used to develop further theories, and the process continues. In the medical field, the steady development of technology involving ultrasound imaging, and its resulting clinical use, is an outstanding illustration of this process
