The main goal of this project from its conception has been developing an open, flexible, adaptive medical library, promoted by the community of participants, with the ultimate aim of supporting higher education, research and clinical practice or care, as well as of serving as a tool for the professionals working at the libraries. The platform of choice for us is NETVIBES. To achieve greater integration and effectiveness of the services we have conducted a review of the platform and have integrated two tools that we believe will facilitate the discovery and dissemination of scientific information in our area of expertise. They are two of the social references manager with more projection: CiteUlike and Connotea As often happens in social web services, online references manager are becoming cost-effective solutions that are simple, and powerful to collect large sets of metadata resulting from scientific collaboration. These are isolated data on interest, important for every researcher, but at the collective level are an interesting solution for the discovery and evaluation of large-scale scientific content. Through social reference managers selected, Connotea and CiteUlike, the working group MILK (Medical Information Library & Knowledge) has articulated a far more effective cooperation of the participating libraries and provided a new channel to promote and facilitate the discovery of scientific information between our users. En este artículo presentamos la segunda fase de un proyecto de colaboración entre bibliotecas médicas pertenecientes a diferentes instituciones, ubicadas en diferentes zonas geográficas y con diferentes objetivos e intereses (algunas de ellas centradas en la investigación y la docencia médica y otras en la práctica hospitalaría). El objetivo principal de este proyecto desde su concepción se ha centrado en un proceso abierto, flexible de biblioteca, promovido por la comunidad de participantes, con el objetivo último de apoyar la educación superior, la investigación y la práctica clínica o la atención, así como de servir como una herramienta para los profesionales que trabajan en las bibliotecas. La plataforma elegida por nosotros para el mismos es Netvibes. Para lograr una mayor integración y la eficacia de los servicios se ha realizado una revisión de la plataforma y se han integrado dos herramientas que creemos que facilitará el descubrimiento y la difusión de información científica en nuestra área de especialización. Eestas son dos de los gestores de referencias sociales con más proyección: CiteULike y Connotea Como suele suceder en los servicios de la web social, los gestores de referencias en línea se están convirtiendo en soluciones rentables que son simples, y de gran alcance para recopilar grandes conjuntos de metadatos resultantes de la colaboración científica. A través de los administradores sociales de referencia seleccionado, y Connotea citeulike, el grupo de trabajo MILK ha articulado una eficaz cooperación de las bibliotecas participantes y un nuevo canal para promover y facilitar el descubrimiento de información científica entre nuestros usuarios. Guus van den Brekel is information specialist and IT-Coordinator for the Central Medical Library at the University Medical Center Groningen (Netherlands). There he is responsible for innovation and for the development of new library services. The present interview informs about the meaning and benefit of Web 2.0 and Emerging technologies, about the advantage of Blogs and Twitter and the importance of mobile applications for libraries. UNESCO's Office in Montevideo releases a book on the use of Greenstone, open source digital library software, in Latin America. Entitled Greenstone: Un software libre de código abierto para la construcción de bibliotecas digitales. Experiencias en América Latina y el Caribe, the publication explains the multiple applications of Greenstone in the region and the work of national Greenstone’s centres.

En la introducción del libro se explica: "Actualmente, el software libre y de código abierto que forma el conjunto de programas de Greenstone Digital Library, desarrollado por la Universidad de Waikato en Nueva Zelanda en cooperación con la UNESCO y la ONG Human Info con sede en Bélgica, tiene usuarios en cerca de 90 países. Greenstone es un paquete multi-plataforma fácil de utilizar, multilingüe, que permite el montaje de documentos electrónicos en las colecciones digitales y su publicación en la web o en CD-ROM. Acepta documentos en una amplia gama de formatos propietarios y estándar. Asimismo, es compatible con numerosas normas de intercambio de documentos y metadatos, incluyendo el cumplimiento del protocolo OAI-PMH y las normas Z39.50 de recuperación de información, y convierte rápidamente bases de datos bibliográficos creados con el software CDS/ISIS de UNESCO en bibliotecas digitales, incluyendo los textos completos de los documentos de referencia si están disponibles. Abstract(s)

The discipline of information architecture (IA), although present in some way for over 50 years, has taken on special relevance with the advent of the Web and the explosion of the amount of available information. Nowadays, IA has clear pillars based on the managed content but especially on users, without forgetting the context. This article discusses components to combine when developing IA, and a basic methodology is identified. As the amount of information around us is still growing, IA continues to innovate with new forms of organization, more efficient search engines and Semantic Web technologies that let computers take care of the less creative part of coping with the avalanche of information.

La arquitectura de la información (IA), aunque presente en cierta manera desde hace más de 50 años, ha tomado especial relevancia con la llegada de la Web y el aumento de la cantidad de información a nuestro alcance. La disciplina cuenta ya con unos pilares claros, que se fundamentan en los contenidos gestionados pero sobre todo en los usuarios, sin olvidar su contexto. También se identifica una serie de componentes a combinar a la hora de elaborar una IA y una metodología básica. Pero la cantidad de información a nuestro alcance no para de crecer, así que se continúa innovando en nuevas formas de organización, buscadores más eficaces o tecnologías de web semántica que permiten a los ordenadores encargarse de la parte menos creativa de enfrentarse a esa avalancha de información.

La versión digital de periódicos y revistas hace tiempo que integró vídeos y sonido a las crónicas. Ahora le ha llegado el turno al libro. El grupo editorial Simon and Schuster lanzó el jueves en EE UU el vook, un producto que, como indica su nombre en inglés, mezcla libro (book) y vídeo.

"No es un 'e-book' ni una película, es una mezcla de ambos", dice su inventor

"Es un género nuevo. No es un libro electrónico y tampoco es una película, es la mezcla de ambas cosas", explica en conversación telefónica Bradley J. Inman, presidente de la compañía Vook, responsable de este invento. La limitación técnica de lectores electrónicos como Kindle o Sony E Reader -que no permiten ver vídeos- parece darle la razón: el ordenador o el teléfono son los canales naturales para los vooks.

Ya no se trata sólo de lanzar un vídeo promocional de una novela en Internet, sino de aprovechar las posibilidades narrativas que ofrece la tecnología. "Las películas están insertas en el texto", explica Inman. "Uno va leyendo, cuando aparece un vídeo lo abre y éste ocupa toda la pantalla".

"Hemos querido probarlo con historias de ficción y de no ficción. En este último campo la aceptación es inmensa", dice Judith Curr, directora de Atria, el sello de Simon and Schuster que ha lanzado los primeros cuatro vooks al mercado. Su precio es de siete dólares (4,79 euros).

Promises, el nuevo título de Jude Deveraux, autora de novelas románticas, ha sido una de las apuestas. Este vook suma un total de 131 páginas de texto convencional y 17 vídeos de unos dos minutos de duración. "Si no ves los vídeos te pierdes una parte muy importante porque la trama avanza en parte gracias a ellos". A partir de las 5.000 descargas, Curr consideraría la nueva iniciativa un éxito.

Por su parte, la editorial francesa Robert Laffont, en colaboración con la compañía de telefonía móvil Orange, acaba de publicar Le sens des choses, una obra de Jacques Attali que el sello galo promociona como "el primer hiperlibro". Se trata de una recopilación de entrevistas que se complementa con códigos de barras que, activados desde un ordenador o un móvil, permiten acceder a vídeos y música.

Para José Antonio Millán, escritor y editor digital, el libro interactivo es "como Disney: lo mejor de todos los mundos juntos". Él mismo abrió una prolongación en la Red de sus libros El candidato melancólico y Perdón imposible (RBA). Este último está dedicado a la puntuación y Millán creó un exitoso concurso en Internet que consistía en puntuar un texto de un libro famoso despojado de puntos y comas. El director de la primera edición digital del diccionario de la RAE cree además que Internet es la extensión natural de ciertos libros: "Los de arquitectura. O los ensayos. Los liberas de la bibliografía, ahorras páginas y abaratas precios".

En España, todavía el material complementario se basa más en la acumulación de soportes (CD y DVD pegados a un libro o links anotados en sus páginas) que en la fusión de lenguajes. El futuro sigue lejos y el presente no siempre es fácil. Por problemas con los derechos de algunas imágenes, Agustín Fernández Mallo ha renunciado a incluir en su novela Nocilla Lab (Alfaguara) el documental que la acompañaba. Finalmente, lo colgará en su blog. El escritor considera que el libro tradicional ya es suficientemente fascinante y se pregunta "¿qué diferencia hay entre un link en un texto en papel y una nota al pie tradicional?". "Eso sí", dice, "las nuevas tecnologías inauguran una nueva forma de leer".
