Abstract

BACKGROUND:

There has been serious concern regarding the longevity and durability of outcomes of reversetotal shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) in younger patients. It was the purpose of this study to analyze long-term outcomes and complications of RTSA for irreparable rotator cuff tears in patients younger than 60 years.

CONCLUSIONS:

RTSA in patients younger than 60 years leads to substantial subjective and functional improvement without clinical deterioration beyond 10 years. It is associated with a substantial complication rate, and complications compromise ultimate subjective and objective outcomes.

ANTECEDENTES:
Ha habido una gran preocupación con respecto a la longevidad y la durabilidad de los resultados de la artroplastia total de hombro reversa (RTSA) en pacientes más jóvenes. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar los resultados a largo plazo y las complicaciones de RTSA para los desgarros irreparables del manguito rotador en pacientes menores de 60 años.

CONCLUSIONES:
La RTSA en pacientes menores de 60 años conduce a una mejora sustancial subjetiva y funcional sin deterioro clínico más allá de los 10 años. Se asocia con una tasa de complicaciones considerable, y las complicaciones comprometen los últimos resultados subjetivos y objetivos.
